A short tale
2 days to go
or
2 hours of work (if you can call it that)
Just wanted to add. Story from one of the Bridemaids Mums last night. She heard the bridesmaid praying and some of the things were funny
"... please God don't let everyone eat all the chocolates so there are some left for me and please help Gareth get into the castle ...". See as far is she is concerned it is a fairtale and I am arriving on a white horse to rescue the LL.
Bless

0.5 working days
Oh yeah baby last work day before the big day. As ever it is now flying past with still lots of little things to do. Last night saw The LL writing up the table plan which she did in the comfort of hermanita’s house. That left me to do some tidying up and trying to keep the place clean for the weekend. Also meant I gave CN her bath and hair wash which she wasn’t too happy about. She wants her ‘Moori’ to do it.
Today we have the final meeting with the registrar, the venue and then planning a bit of shopping and then home to do my hair and bit of grooming.
So this will likely be my last post until after the wedding. I am going to try and post something on Sunday even if it is only a couple of pictures.

Chill wind
3 Days to go…
… or
1.5 working days
Well we are now down to the final throws of the event. My future Mrs is ace. I mentioned that it was going to be rather cold at the weekend (may even snow, which would be different. I know Jenn might not agree) and that I really didn’t have a posh coat for the day. I have a lovely sports jacket which she bought me for my birthday but not suitable for a grand event like Saturday. Anyway yesterday I got home to find that she had walked around several shops to find me one. How cool is that!!! Sadly it was the wrong size so we quickly zipped up to the shop and exchanged it for a smaller size and now fits like a glove or coat.
Spanish was a bit strange last night being the last one for a while. I do find learning rather hard and am worried about my communication in Vland. I guess it will be a baptism of fire but I only hope I don’t insult anyone. I was hoping to be more fluent. I find I can understand more when people speak slowly to me, but as with any language there is a lot of slang that I need to get my head around.
I think today will go slowly but it is something I can deal with. Half day tomorrow but a very busy day. Have a gander at chairboy’s prologue to his novel. I thought it was rather good but as you can tell by the standard of this blog I know flip all about writing, but not being a big reader I am keen to read more so that must be good.
BTW I hope to post some pictures on Sunday about the big day if I get the chance.

Who ate all the pies
4 Days to go…
… or
2.5 working days
Well not a hell of a lot to report on the western front. I managed to make a few calls to the venue to finalise the bubbly/OJ order and final numbers for food. The LL had to do another re-write of the table plan.
She also made a cracking dinner last night so I had two helpings. Which was a big mistake. I really must learn to control myself better. I then spent the rest of the evening moaning about my tummy being full. We also got some lovely towels in the post from my Aunties in Australia. They are very good quality and cracking colours too.
Spoke to Sparky to confirm our colours for the day and have a general chat. He has his “play at soldier” day, tomorrow so “Gas gas gas”.
I am afraid that is all she wrote folks for today. Seems like a waiting game now. Find concentrating on work very hard to do at the moment. Think the most nervous thing is meeting the In-laws.

That was the weekend that was.
5 Days to go…
… or
3.5 working days
Well that was the last weekend as an engaged couple. It was a very good one too. We have had CN since Wednesday. Saturday we took her to sort out some new glasses. It was less of a mission than it usually is. She was very good and picked one pair of lovely pink one’s and a pair of pinkie blue. We then met a friend whose birthday it was at a vegetarian restaurant. The food was very good. I had a breakfast roll type thing and the sausages really did taste like real ones. Then it was back home to chill out.
Sunday started with CN proudly telling us that breakfast was ready. She had only gone and laid the table and got all the breakfast stuff out. She has also got very good at making the toast too. I had decided that Sunday would be the Kitchen blitz day. So while the girls were tackling baths and hair washes. I cracked on with it. The afternoon was very chilled until we took CN back. Then it was up to the bowling alley to get a LL’s Bowling ball which had been re-holed and have a few games with Brunx, Jorge and Nestor. Have to say the LL played the best out of us. I could not hit a cow’s arse with banjo in the first game (109) but found some form in the second (130) but it was one of those nights that no matter how well you hit the pins they just would not go down.
Back home for rest and bed.

Who's that?
8 Days to go…
… or
4 working days
I must first apologies again for the name change. You see I picked “Gringo” out as it sounded very South American thing to do. Well lets be honest that is what they call Americans in the movies. However you see that is the problem it is aimed at people from the USA and not generally used for other nations so it was a little pointless. So I have changes to something Brunx started calling me, plus the song is awesome.
Thing are still very much on course. We have had few changes but these are all really taken in our stride and looks like we may be able to get a way with one less table. This is not a bad thing as it allows more space for dancing. We just have the final bits and bobs to sort and have arranged a final appointment with Viv (our contact at the venue) for Thursday afternoon.
I must be honest and say that I am starting to get worried about meeting the in laws. We have spoken on the phone and they are really nice people. It is weird in that I will meet them as there son in law. Starting to think my Spanish really is not good enough but I have tried to learn as quickly as possible. I am glad LL and Hermanita will be there to help me. I am also really looking to forward to meeting the rest of the family. Hope they like me.
Last night was a quiet one. Tried to have an early night but to be honest I woke up feeling worse this morning. I also get the feeling my body is trying to fight of a cold or something. You know that feeling you get of feeling crap with out having any symptoms. Yes that one! That’s how I feel. To bad really coz I am not stopping for anything.
I am sooo excited and can’t wait to call LL my wife.I will say it again. She is an amazing person with a big heart and a wonderful personality. She is my soul and my heart. Gracias

fecking parking
9 Days to go…
… or
5 working days
Just spent the best of freaking 20mins trying to find a place to park at work. It is bloody ridiculous. When a swipe machine in the car park that clocks you in. They would soon fix the parking round here once the company starts losing money over it.
Last night went out for dinner with LL, Hermanita and CN. Hermanita is LL sisters and she got a lovely promotion at work last week so she took us out for dinner……… mmmmm steak. LL had bought CN some lovely new clothes as most of her stuff is getting to small. I had to take her for her eye check this morning, hence the car park fiasco. All is well and she will get 2 new pairs of glasses next week.
That’s all she wrote for now.

The day from Ell
10 Days to go…
… or
6 working days
Yesterday was not a good day. I woke up feeling a bit strange. Like something was a miss. I would call it a no mood day. I was not happy, yet I was not pissed off. I just felt weird. I am putting it down to the excitement of the whole of last weekend wearing off and the routine of work sucking the life out of me. Added to the fact that I am also tired.
Then add a briefing by one of our other departments which was half good and half boring as dog dodo. I also had a nice surprise waiting at home from the Thames valley Police. Seems they caught me doing 33 in a 30 zone. So I guess that is more point and a fine and then rounded of with a really crap Spanish lesson, not that the lesson itself was crap just the student. I.e. me……
However this morning finds me in a better mood and to be honest I would rather have a bad week this week then next.
That’s all for now kids. Have a great one.

mayday mayday
11 Days to go…
… or
7 working days
Still aching. Thinking it might take some time for the knees to recover.
Sweet baby Jesus and the Holy virgin Mary was I tired last night. I guess the excitement of the weekend started to fade. To be honest by lunchtime yesterday I was struggling to keep my eyes open. Almost found myself dozing off in a meeting which included one of the big bosses……… not good.
Had CN last night who was in a very good mood. We all watched Charlotte’s web, but I made the LL sit and watch the stupid bit that makes you cry. So now she too has done that. Watched a bit off Telly and then off to bed, where I crashed and had a stupid dream about zombies attacking me. Actually it was like a movie and if there hadn’t been countless zombie movies I would write it down. Never the less I managed to talk to them as I was surrounded and they were about to ‘convert me’. Seems they could remember their pasts and the people they were……… weird huh.
Right time to put this post out of its misery and end it.
Pizza and coke.

It was like Nam
12 Days to go…
… or
8 working days
The silence of a cold, bright winters dawn broke. Smoke drifting on the wind, like dancers across a stage. The sound of the larks in the trees, deafening the ears. The only other sound is the beat of the heart. Rhythmic hypnotic. Faster and faster. Blood pumping, breathing is hard. Focus, focus. Suddenly the burst of adrenalin. Feet pumping. I rise to the front. My cover broken. Grasping the trigger I fire 3 or 4 times as I am rising. My next cover ten feet away. Legs pumping but the mud is not making easy. Then the dull thud and the stinging pain. “I am hit” and I drudge of the battle field to the dead zone.
Ok so not an award winning novel but never the less an introduction to the world of paintball. Yes for the regulars keeping count, this weekend was my stag do. As I mentioned before it was decided that paintball was the method of “male bonding” and I have to say what a top, top, top day.
Actually my stag do started on Friday day night with my own private one from the LL. Sadly can’t tell you much but it was a bloody good start to the weekend.
Back to Saturday.
It started early. Having to arrive at 9.15am sharp (or so the info said). So with that in mind a time was agreed and confirmed. As always DJ Brunx was given a time way in advanced but this time the man came through. However (and I am starting think part latino) Sparky who called to say he was on his way but running late. Never the less the planning had allowed for this and despite getting lost (as so it seemed everyone else) we arrived on time. It was so amazing to have so many friends turn up and from so many differing backgrounds. After the initial pfaff of registration it was time to get our armour and helmets. After the fitting it was the all important time to get “tooled up”. I decide to go for the Rambo pack which included 500 “Bullets”, 2 grenades and gloves (very Important).
The all important safety brief was followed by Brunx, Jorge and Nestor all asking me “Que? What did he say”? I re-highlighted the important bits. Basically if your mask comes off lay flat on the ground with your hands over your eyes. The it was time to get busy. Basically the day consisted of 5 scenarios which you play twice, one in “each direction”. Our day started with a flag game. Retrieve flag and then try and get into the other teams camp. Our team consisted of the Number 9 gang (us see roll call) and another group of kids and, I guess there mothers.
So the game started and I thought I know I am just going to legit for the flag or at least the barrels in front of it. I actually made it to. Sadly my attempt to actually get the flag failed miserably and I was taken out after about a minute……… Nuts !!!. Anyway we lost that one which was kind of the theme for the day to be honest but I would say there was some dodgy cheating going from the other team but it was all good fun really.
Couple of things
1. Running into a house and shooting a 12 year old as he jumps in the house, will involve you getting shot at close from the 12 year old as well (fair play to him but it did hurt)
2. White tops and white trainers really are not a good for rolling around in the mud.
3. Always do the neck thing up to the top (See Pete’s neck)
4. The face mask will take the force of the shot but not stop the paint going into your mouth.
5. You really need to have some sort of tactic.
6. The paint grenades are utter shit.
7. The smoke grenades are rather good used wisely.
8. The flash bangs have a very short fuse, ask Pete, his glove and the Women who now can’t hear.
9. Some moron from your own team will shoot you when you have declared yourself dead and they identify you as the stag. (yes I am looking at you Taylor, your time will come, your time will come).
10. 500 Bullets is not nearly enough (unless you are a sniper like Richie).
11. The other team will always cheat. Ie. Yeah I made it into the fort despite being covered in paint. (Twice)(Pendejos)
12. You really need knees to play
13. Going to the gym is pointless, I still ache.
Scenarios
Bridge assault
Urban attack
Fort (Defend/attack)
Gravesite
Speedball

Roll call (see picture)
Back row (L to R)
Gareth “Rooivalk” D
Richie “Sniper” E
Pete “Deadmeat” B
Stephen “Man at arms” P
Mark “Sparky” T
Jorge “The Hitman” C
Bruno “Delta 1” R
Kneeling
Gareth “Bravo 1 and quarter Zero” S
Gareth “Matador” H
Nestor “Rainbow Warrior” S
Well after a totally fun day we headed out for a ruby and drinks. Where we saluted fallen comrades (Stephen P and Richie E) and welcomed new recruits (Ben Torro). Frankly I think we were all feeling it by about 10.30 as signified by the group groan as we tried to get up off the table. Next was turtle and then was talk of going to help the charity place down the road.?? Yeah said Bruno they are so poor and that place you have to give the girls some money because they have no clothes to wear. However it was all but over by that point and we headed back to Fort Hunt.
I have to say I had a fantastic day and evening. Thank you to all those who came and celebrated with me. I will remember it always. Thank you

Good news and bad news
15 Days to go…
… or
9 working days
Money transfers for Rent – sorted
Turns out that not only can’t I spell or use grammar but I also have problems counting. See all I had to do was count who was coming and to cut a long story short I counted someone twice……… doh! Which means I look very very stupid right now. Still I am sure we can find a willing victim.
Work is hell at the moment. The lady who I work with at times can be difficult and yesterday was one of those days where she was incredibly demanding (I will give her, her dues she does know and often jokes about it). However yesterday I wasn’t rising to it. Example of an IM chat yesterday;
GEH – Good news and Bad News?
SHE – What’s the bad news?
GEH – 1) Our lead developer in India is off tomorrow
2) One of our other Developers in India is MIA (Missing in action)
3) Another one is on scheduled leave.
4) That leaves one Developer in India who has never built a roll out package
Which means the chances of rolling out tomorrow are fading faster than Jade Goodies popularity after this year’s celebrity big brother (was she ever popular??)
SHE – Who the hell let all those people of and left us short when we have a tight deadline.
GEH- Dunno but I only knew about 1 of the leave requests.
SHE – AAAAARRRGGHH What’s the good news.
GEH- I will be on a beach in less than 3 weeks woo hoo.
Still she took it in good nature.
Not much else to report. Gig last night was good if not a little quiet. Always difficult after a big gig to get people out for a second one. Still we had fun and moved the Mixer off stage so I could fiddle with buttons with out knocking the boys over.
Right of to eeeeerrrrr I want to say work but that aint going to happen.

Turns out that not only can’t I spell or use grammar but I also have problems counting. See all I had to do was count who was coming and to cut a long story short I counted someone twice……… doh! Which means I look very very stupid right now. Still I am sure we can find a willing victim.
Work is hell at the moment. The lady who I work with at times can be difficult and yesterday was one of those days where she was incredibly demanding (I will give her, her dues she does know and often jokes about it). However yesterday I wasn’t rising to it. Example of an IM chat yesterday;

16 Days to go…

10.5 working days
Stag do – sorted – paintball ouch !!
Taxis for the day – not sorted
Head – Much better.
Today I have that excited kid vibe about me. First of Los dos amigos are playing tonight, which means I get to don my Roadie/Sound engineer/Security/go for/ hat. Guess I feel like it is the closest I am actually going to get to doing something artistic or being involved in the same. I mean my guitar playing is getting much better but I am still a long way of doing something like that. I guess since my Uncle died I have been exploring that side of my life more. You know the drama side. I guess I want to see if there is anything there. Maybe after the honeymoon I will look at it further.
Second reason is the stag do. Since I am a tea totaller it is going to be slightly different anyway. So our day starts with paintballing. I am little worried about this as I have never done it before. I am told it can hurt as well. Good job we are doing this some time before the actual day so that any bruises will heel. That will be followed by a meal out and then maybe to a bar or two. So nothing to wild. Certainly no strippers (sorry Brunex). I guess as I don’t drink it is up to the best man to get trousered and tied to a lamp post in the middle of Reading.
Hen do sounds good to. The LL is going around a friend’s house with her sis and few others. I have been told of a few of the plans and I think she will have a really good time. She deserves it.
Right I am off to errrrrrr I want to say work but that aint gonna happen.

Head – Hurts like hell.
Today is going to be a struggle. It has only just started but I can already tell. Woke up this morning with the headache from hell and it has been compounded by “she” who I kind of work for and her constant whinging. You would think I sit here and wait for her to call eveb though she only wants me to book about 10 hours week to her project. I am trying to resolve the headache thing with out the use of tablets and so far so good, so maybe it was brought on by the late night. Tuesday night’s do tend to be later on account of the Spanish course. We normally leave at 6pm and don’t get home until around 9.30pm. Then we like to unwind before heading of to bed at around 11pm. Yes I know for some that is an early night but then we are up at 5.45am to take the LL to work.
The Spanish is going OK. I think I have enough now to at least have some sort of conversation with the in laws when I meet them. Did I mention I am only meeting them after we are married…… Hope they like me !! I am really looking forward to it and meeting the rest of the family. I will give you a run down of the others when my head stops hurting but for now let me just say that Madre y Padre no hable ingles so it should be fun. I think I might be able to do pigeon Spanish which will see me through. Luckily I will also have the LL and Hermanita to help.
Sorry folks got to run. Hope you are all well. Another 22 March Weddinger (Think I just made a word).

18 Days to go…
Stag do – Almost sorted – Best man sorting that out antway.
Pressies for guests – sorted
Taxis for the day – not sorted
Last night we had CN to stay for her usual Monday night visit. During the day the LL had been out and bought her some lounging around clothes. We have plenty of nice clothes for going out but most of her messing around the Cassita stuff is way too small. Anyway as part of her purchases the LL managed to get hold of a cheap copy of Charlottes Web on DVD. We had heard that this was one of CN favourites. Well it was used to calm her down by her Mother after she was picked up from the cassita when I was in India, and she didn’t want to leave…. Bless her. Anyway I ended up watching it with her as the LL was at yoga.
What a stupid assed movie… Well I have to say that coz it nearly bought me to tears. Not sure if it was the whole being different and people fearing you when you are good egg thing and then accepting you or what. What I ended up having to be the big brave Daddy at the sad bit. It was real struggle too. I won’t give it away but there is one. I am now going to make the LL sit down and watch it.
So after that and CN’s bath I decided I would sit down and try and do some recording into the laptop. I got very angry with the software, cursed a number of times at the stupid computer. Only to realise I had not actually plugged in the guitar totally…… ooooops Roadie school boy error.
I really am struggling trying to “get into work” with under 3 weeks to go who can blame me.
I am outtie folks have a good one.

19 Days to go…
DJ – Sorted.

Wedding night hotel – Sorted
Crazy hour party bag – Sorted
Another weekend flies by in a blur and it only feels like a few hours I was last here and not 2 days ago. The weekend started with a whizz and bang and pretty much carried on like that for the whole period. Friday night saw me debut as the sound engineer for Los dos amigos at the amazing 360 in the student union of Reading University. Having been there once before for a fiesta I knew it was big but hadn’t realised how big until we got there. Proper stage, proper techies and proper sh*ting myself; bearing in mind all I had to do was make sure they sounded good. Gig went really well 270 people all getting down to the boys, who played as well as I have seen them play. What about the sound?? Well apparently that was good too so I fell a lot better. It felt really good after the show doing the whole roadie thing on stage with everyone partying around the place. Big shout out to Andy the tech guy from the Uni who was very good and pleasure to work with. Hopefully the guys will be invited back. We then stayed at the Latin Party until the close and had a very good time. Even if you aren’t Latin these parties are great.
Saturday was more or less a chill out day. Had planned to do nothing until Jo my ex house/landlady phoned and invited us for lunch. It was a very pleasant time and Elliott her baby was very good and let mum have dinner before demanding his grub. That evening was spent with Hermana and Brunx, who was dying to hear the recording from the night before. Sadly I don’t think it was as good as we hoped, which is not a reflection of the gig but more my recording skills…. Come on one new skill a night is enough for me !!. We watched the hot chick and the heartbreak kid. The Hot chick is really funny in stupid way and the heartbreak kid was pleasant enough.
Sunday was wedding planning day. Photographer came over and showed some truly amazing albums. We weren’t to fussed about an official album since the photos are coming in a lovely box set but what he showed us on Sunday really gave us food for thought. It looks like we will have to raid the saving again when we come back. Then we sorted out the party bags for the crazy hour. By that I mean dividing up hats and whistles et al into bags to go under the tables. The evening was then spent at a friends of the LL who are providing us with a car for the wedding. You got a laugh at the helpfulness of some people. I went to the kiosk at the train station and ask for 2 tickets to Ealing Broadway via the underground. Now I did this because Anna thought the trains didn’t stop at the station (closest to them – west Ealing) on a Sunday. However the dude at the kiosk could have mentioned or said “eeeer are you sure you want to do that” as there are direct trains to that station, but no he gave me a funny look and then we had to do it the hard way. Anyway coming home was easier as we did just catch the direct train. Have a lot of respect for Anna because she had run the half marathon in the morning and then entertained in the evening.
Enough of my wild ramblings more soon.
